Oasi S. Francesco is part of the charitable activities of the monks of the Third Order Regular of St. Francis and is located in the religious order's Parish of Holy Patrons of Italy

Oasi S. Francesco, recognized as a “holiday house”, cannot be compared to a hotel and has specific rules which take into account the true purpose of the Institution

Permanence of guests, by statute, is temporary and agreed upon with the management.

Our Home constitutes an instrument for the mission of the Third Order of St. Francis which, following the example of the ancient “penitentes”, is implemented through the practice of hospitality - in Evangelic-Franciscan style - and by carring out spiritual and cultural activities.

Since ancient time, hospitality has always been deemed sacred. The Christian Middle Ages present great cases in point of hospitality, where the meaning of the works of mercy was profound and inspired by the words of Jesus: “I was a stranger and you invited me in” (Matthew 25:35).

Hospitality was given by ancient monasteries, but subsequently also by convents of monks and groups of faithful laymen, as were our first “penitentes”. Later referred to as Franciscan tertiaries, they dedicated themselves to giving hospitality, especially along the consular roads and the roads which led to Rome, to the tombs of the Apostles, to Compostela and to Brindisi on the way the Holy Land.

With simple and meaningful gestures, these brothers and sisters welcomed guests with a greeting of peace, the washing of the feet and the introduction into the house. Once inside, they broke bread together and then sat around the fire to share tales and recite prayers until the time for rest.

Volunteers

For more than 30 years a group of volunteers has been cooperating free of charge in the activities of Oasi S. Francesco, offering a little of their time to their brothers. Theirs contribution is not limited to supporting the staff, but consist mainly of receiving guests and making them feel at ease, giving them all the necessary information in order to overcome the difficulties which may derive from the impact with a big city. They also keep them company, thus creating a sharing and friendly climate.
